Since this blog is about getting good deals, and because Flu Season is underway, I wanted to highlight some ways to get this year's Flu Shot for free! Protect yourself from getting sick both at home and while traveling!

Universities are just one place
offering free flu shots! |
First, check with your employer. A lot of large companies, health organizations / hospitals and universities will hold flu clinics where employees, students, alumni, and sometimes even the employee's family can just walk up and get a free shot. If you have health insurance, a flu shot is almost always covered due to the Affordable Care Act enacted in August 2012, and it will only cost you your normal copay (if you even have one). Or, schedule your yearly physical around October every year and get the flu shot then!
Your county's Department of Health provides free flu shots to children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with chronic illnesses. It's becoming more common that they'll actually provide free shots to anyone, though wait times may be long. Check with your local health department and see if they'll have free flu clinics or if you can schedule individual appointments. Even nationwide chain drugstores, such as Walgreens, that normally charge for the vaccine are providing free vouchers to those who are uninsured or under insured and can't afford to pay. If all else fails, the
CDC's website has a list of locations near you offering the shot. Stay healthy and safe travels!
I went to King Sooper (Kroger) and paid $25. My employer would have only charged $20, but I'm glad I got the shot over with. This year they're saying it will cover you for the duration!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice - grocery stores are so convenient! And, this year's flu vaccine will protect against three different viruses!
