Airbnb

Since this blog is about saving money and also the joy of travel, I wanted to share what I think is the perfect combination of both: Airbnb.com! While this website is no longer the new kid on the block, Airbnb still offers something that is hard to find elsewhere: well priced accommodations, secure transactions, an easy user interface and success stories.

For those who don't know, Airbnb is a website that allows you to rent a room, apartment, or whole house from the owner. You book online like other travel sites, but can message the owner directly to ask questions beforehand, request specific time for check-in, have the fridge stocked, etc. It tends to be a bit cheaper overall than a hotel, offers a more local flavor and normally has a kitchen, allowing you to make some of your own meals (and save more money that way too).
