Travel Photo Tips

One of the best parts of traveling is the memories you make. Here are some tips on how to get the best out of your free souvenirs (aka Photos)!

1) Change your point of view. Kneel, climb, or lay down for more interesting perspectives.

A high up vantage point made this beach and waterfall photo
much more impressive than if it were shot from the sand below.
2) Shoot at dawn (and dusk). The lighting and colors are often most impressive. And, the quiet still of the morning makes for peaceful landscape shots.
This shot, taken at dusk, captures the hustle and bustle,
as well as the beauty of Rome, all at the same time.
3) Be aware of what's going on around you. Observing your surroundings will allow you to be ready to capture the best shots. And, honestly, capture something slightly different than all the other tourists.

4) Frame your shots using the natural surroundings. A nicely framed image can make all the difference!
Using the flowers to frame this shot, as well as kneeling to get
a different perspective, resulted in this beautiful photo from Iceland.

  1. That reminds me that the photographer who took the legendary shot of Che Guevara's body stood atop a ladder and then hid the ladder from other arriving photographers.

  2. I've noticed that objects can be extra bright when photographed against gray skies.
